In 2000, Comic Relief joined forces with Divine Chocolate to make the first Fairtrade product for young people – Dubble!
How did it happen? Well … we asked thousands of young people in the UK if they would like their very own Fairtrade chocolate bar. The answer was a massive YES and so the idea for the Dubble chocolate bar was born.
We launched a "Chocolate Challenge" on Children’s BBC for young people to design a new wrapper for a fairly traded chocolate bar. We chose the overall winner, Gracie Hadley, out of an amazing 16,203 entries and she travelled out to Ghana to meet the cocoa farmers who grow the cocoa for Dubble – what a prize!
We used these designs as inspiration to come up with the name and look for Dubble. See Gracie's original design here and read her life-changing story too!
The original milk chocolate Dubble bar was born in 2000 and set out to change the world chunk by chunk with the help of lots of famous friends and thousands of young people who signed up to become Dubble Agents and made Fairtrade their Mission.
