Divine and Dubble answered the call to ‘Go Further’ this Fairtrade Fortnight. Here’s how…
Divine was dubbly delighted to host a visit by Kuapa Kokoo members Mary Appiah and Esther Mintah Ephraim – both from the Western Region of Ghana, and both first time travellers to UK. Mary is 60, and comes from Enchi where she has a 7.5 acre farm. She’s been a member of Kuapa Kokoo for 6 years. Esther is 28, from Agyedum, and her family farm is 38 acres. She’s been a Kuapa member for 8 years.
Tower Bridge School year 4 students have been helping Dubble, and educational charity Trading Visions, build a giant 8ft Fairtrade Warrior in celebration of Fairtrade Fortnight 2013. The giant warrior strode out across Potters Field park with the year 4 students, Mary and Esther, Sophi Tranchell (Divine’s MD) and two giant Mr Dubbles!
For the first time Divine had its own pop-up shop for Fairtrade Fortnight - right in the heart of Covent Garden, London. It was a fantastic experience and we loved talking to customers about chocolate and the dubbly good story behind Divine chocolate. We also enjoyed all the events and the exhibition downstairs. The highlight for Dubble HQ had to be the giant Mr Dubbles tackling a bit of Azonto dancing! Classic.
I went with my family to an awesome chocolate factory in Germany two weeks ago. I met lots of my Mummy's friends like Sophi, Erin and Cord. I already knew Cord who owns the factory because we both went to Ghana to see cocoa beans and we both patted a crocodile there.
Harriet Lamb, Chief Executive Officer of Fairtrade International and Sophi Tranchell, Managing Director of Divine Chocolate Ltd, dubbled up to congratulate Dubble on the new bars at Harriet’s leaving party last month. Harriet left the UK’s Fairtrade Foundation to take up her new role in Germany in October 2012.
Long standing supporter of Dubble, Freema Agyeman, will be returning to her BBC roots (remember she was previously Martha Jones in Doctor Who and Torchwood) in a brand new Cbeebies show call 'Old Jack's Boat'. She will co-star as Shelley with Bernhard Cribbins as Old Jack. The series is a mix of live action and animation which allows Old Jack to re-live tales of adventure with Shelley and his faithful dog, Salty.
Earlier this year, ten students from the John Fisher School were out in Ghana visiting the Kuapa Kids involved in the Pa Pa Paa LIVE webcast service for schools. Pa Pa Paa LIVE features videos made by kids from Fairtrade cocoa growing communities in Ghana and are made in collaboration with the Kuapa Kokoo Fairtrade cocoa co-operative.
